Brittany Ferries – run regular services from:

Poole to Cherbourg (1¼ hrs drive)

Portsmouth to Cherbourg

Portsmouth to Caen (Ouistreham) (1hrs drive)

Portsmouth/Plymouth to St Malo

Condor Ferries – services from Poole to St Malo (1hr 20min drive)

LDLines – services from Portsmouth to Le Havre (1hr 45min drive)

There are also ferries from Dover to Boulogne, Calais and Dieppe (4hrs drive) and, of course, the Channel Tunnel.

Speedferries from Dover to Boulogne (185 miles drive) currently offer the cheapest crossings at £55 each way throughout the year.

By Air

Flybe from Southampton to Rennes – hire cars available at the airport with an easy 2 hour motorway drive to the cottage. Flybe also run flights from Southampton to Cherbourg (1½ hours away)

Paris – the cottage is some 330Km (3½hrs) away by motorway

Ryanair fly from Stanstead to Dinard (2 hours away)

By Train

There are trains from Paris to Vire (the closest) and to Lison (North east of St Lo)
